You’ve heard all the buzz about blockchain, but now you may be wondering: what does this mean for me? Blockchain is a radically novel technology with the potential to disrupt a wide range of businesses and industries. However, navigating through the flood of information available about blockchain and related technologies can be daunting and time consuming. In this event, Dr. Chris Rowell from UBC will illuminate the main features, strengths, and limitations of blockchain technology at a foundational level, and elaborate implications of this for you as an individual, for business and industry (including some specific examples from the hospitality sector), and for society more broadly. The overarching goal is to empower participants to comprehend and evaluate different blockchain-based applications, and understand what blockchain could mean for their business.

Chris Rowell, DSc (Tech), is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and instructor at the UBC Sauder School of Business and Blockchain@UBC. His research is in strategy and innovation, especially with new technologies, and he is currently following the emergence of the blockchain field in British Columbia and more broadly. Chris is especially enthusiastic about how blockchain (and other distributed trust technologies) can change the way we organize and interact, and the implications for business, governance, and society.
