The Smithsonian's Impact on DC Tourism

When:  Oct 28, 2020

Although we are still in the pandemic, museums are opening. How will that impact your hotel? From the National Museum of American History, Melinda Machado, Director, Office of Communications and Marketing, and Andrea Lowther, Deputy Director in the Office of Audience Engagement, will provide us with an overview of the Smithsonian during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and how it affects DC tourism.

Since March, this national treasure of treasures has experienced temporary closures or reduced hours among other visitor limitations.

Attendees will learn:

  • Which museums are now open
  • How to help hotel guests obtain access to the museums
  • How DC area properties can work with the Smithsonian to promote tourism.

This presentation will also showcase one of American History’s newest exhibits, Girlhood (It's Complicated). From Helen Keller to Naomi Wadler, girls have spoken up, challenged expectations, and been on the front lines of social change. Although definitions of girlhood have changed, what it means to grow up female in the United States has always been part of the American conversation.

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex. Learn how this Washington, DC tourism magnet can benefit your hotel guests.
